About the project

Spoonful is an association founded by artists, curators and designers who wanted to share their production and display tools. In October 2026, Spoonful opens its first premises on rue Saint-Sabin, to make shared studios and desks.

Spoonful offers a space run cooperatively, where the members who work there are also the ones who keep it alive. Beyond the working spaces, every member will be able to take part in the programming (exhibitions, screenings, concerts, performances, workshops…) and in collective decisions. The members' café is a place to gather, and contributes to funding the project.

Spoonful seeks to bring together a stable, multidisciplinary and committed working community. Spoonful is an experimental project in its early days, and the way it runs will evolve over time.

About the space

On rue Saint-Sabin, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, the place offers about 125 m², divided into:

  • Room 1 (32 m²): studio / fixed desks, with an adjoining storage area;
  • Room 2 (16 m²): flexible working space;
  • Room 3 (24 m²): exhibition and event space, also open to flexible work outside programming;
  • Entrance and kitchen: members' bar and welcome area;
  • Cellar: screening room and storage.

Shared equipment: printer, guillotine cutter, stage tools, video projector, sound system, fitted kitchen, modular tables and seats, storage.

Terms

Two ways of accessing the working spaces:

  • Fixed desk (10 places): €200 per month — assigned place, permanent access, dedicated storage. Places of about 3 m²;
  • Flexible desk (12 places): €120 per month — free access, adjusted to the programming.

As a stable team is preferable, members commit to staying at least six months.

Members take turns on duty (cleaning the spaces, bar…) and take part in the collective working sessions that fit out the space. Members also take part in the decisions of the collective, notably at regular meetings on programming and on how the place runs.

Applications from collectives

Collectives may apply, under the following terms:

  • An established collective: the group must already exist and have carried out projects together. Please attach examples of shared work;
  • Shared use of a single desk: a collective's membership corresponds to one desk. It may serve for the collective's meetings, depending on the availability of the spaces, but only one member of the collective at a time may use it for day-to-day work;
  • A single voice: the collective has one voice in Spoonful's decisions, and appoints one contact person.

Amount of the contribution

The contribution takes the form of a monthly membership fee paid to the association:

  • €200 (fixed desk);
  • €120 (flexible desk).

This fee covers access to the spaces and shared equipment, running costs (electricity, internet, consumables) and membership of the association. Note that a two-month deposit is asked on arrival, and that one month's notice is required before leaving.

Who it is for

Spoonful is open to artists, writers, graphic designers, publishers, curators, researchers, musicians, filmmakers and cultural workers, independent or organised as a collective, who:

  • need a regular working space in Paris;
  • wish to take part in the programming and in the life of a shared place.

A diversity of practices and paths is sought. Applications from collectives are welcome, under the terms set out above.

Timeline

  • 26 September: open call launched;
  • 1 October: visit of the space;
  • 4 October: visit of the space;
  • 10 October: applications close;
  • 15 October: results announced;
  • from 15 October: moving in;
  • 7 November: opening to the public.

How applications are selected

Applications are reviewed by the current members of the association. A conversation (on site or by video call) may be offered to shortlisted applicants. The criteria will be:

  • how the practice fits the Spoonful project;
  • the wish and the availability to take part in collective life and programming;
  • the balance of disciplines within the group;
  • the match between the stated needs and the chosen option.
